Biography
Benjamin Mbenga
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Benjamin Mbenga raises painting into a device for civilisational archiving. He approaches the portrait not as an anthropomorphic capture but as the map of a living memory, in which the face operates like a historical infrastructure.
His practice incorporates the Mandombe script and the memory geometry of the Lukasa. Through series such as “Ancêtres Bibliothèque” (Ancestors Library), Mbenga combines realism with heritage semiotics to turn the canvas into a site of negotiation between past sovereignty and contemporary urgency.
