Documenter plutôt que commenter : pourquoi Reg’Art ?
Much of contemporary African art is made without leaving a lasting trace. Reg’Art was created to change that: a magazine, an archive, a perspective rooted in Kinshasa.
Works are produced, exhibited, sold, dispersed. The texts that accompany them disappear along with the news feeds that carried them. What is not documented eventually drops out of art history. Reg’Art was born of this observation.
A magazine, not a news feed
Reg’Art is an independent magazine and curatorial space dedicated to contemporary African art. Rooted in Kinshasa, it develops a sovereign visual thinking and builds a reference archive of the major figures of Africa and its diasporas.
This stance has concrete consequences. Every artist published has a lasting profile, with their biography, works and labels. Every text places the works within a lineage, rather than reducing them to an event.
Four ways of reading
The magazine is organised into four sections. Empreinte follows archives, artistic lineages and the documentation of visual memory. Regard thinks through visual language via studio chronicles, art spaces and close readings of works. Rencontre opens dialogues and intersecting perspectives with the artists, curators and thinkers of the contemporary scene. Figure, finally, offers in-depth studies of an artist’s approach, influences and output.
From Kinshasa
