Biography
Nigeria
VELMO takes hold of photography to construct visual fictions of high narrative density. Rejecting passive documentary, he orchestrates rigorous stagings in which composition, dramatic light and the architecture of the frame dictate the sovereignty of the subject.
His work examines urban mythologies, the status of the image in the digital age and the theatricality of power. Through surgical control of colour and posture, VELMO turns the gaze into a space of theoretical and aesthetic speculation.
